American Jessica Korda is making a good fist of her attempt to win the Women's Australian Open at just 18 years old.
Korda, the daughter of former tennis professional Petr, rolled in a birdie putt from a metre at the par-four sixth to relcaim the outright lead at Royal Melbourne today. The teenager, who had her rookie season on the LPGA in America last year, has been rock solid on the greens, and also made birdie at the par-five second hole. She was at six-under-par overall through six holes, leading by one shot from Hee Kyung Seo of South Korea. Another American, big-hitting Brittany Lincicome, made two birdies in the first seven holes to vault into a tie for third with Korean So Yeon Ryu at three-under par. However world No. 1 Yani Tseng was having a poor day, dropping four shots to par in her opening seven holes after a health scare before teeing off. Tseng was suffering abdominal pain when she arrived at the course and there was speculation she may withdraw. Australia's Nikki Campbell made a stuttering start to her quest for a home Open title, dropping two shots in her first six holes.
