SA bushfire under control

14 Jan, 2009 07:14 AM
South Australia's Country Fire Service has brought a blaze at Port Lincoln under control after it yesterday destroyed two homes and burnt out 250 hectares of scrub.

In a update issued this morning, the CFS says that the threat to public safety posed by the Proper Bay fire on the Lower Eyre Peninsula has reduced.

"Although you may now return to the area, be aware that some risks are still present," the CFS statement says.

"Smoke may still be in the area and visibility may be reduced."

It is advising residents to check their property for fire and embers in roof spaces, under floors, in gutters and in tree trunks.

The CFS has seven incidents under observation, and fire restrictions remain in place both in SA, as well as Victoria and NSW.

Extremely hot and dry weather is continue throughout south-eastern Australia until tomorrow.
