Wong pursues faster water buybacks

03 Nov, 2009 06:44 AM
The Federal Government will continue to accelerate its water buybacks for the Murray-Darling basin, bringing forward $320 million to be spent in 2009-10.

The Australian Financial Review reports that the money has been brought forward from 2010-11 and 2011-012.

The decade-long $3.1 billion buybacks have already had a much quicker start than anticipated, with $840 million spent purchasing water rights from farmers in the first 18 months, from February 2008 to August 2009.

If this is about Murray-Darling water buy-back, why the photo of an artesian bore?

The Government is spending BILLIONS of dollars on water buy backs...but what water? If there is no water in the dams, they are really buying air space.

However, if it does rain and fill up the dams, the water will be worth virtually nothing again. So can somebody please explain to me why they are wasting all this money?

Wouldn't it be better spent on more dams - for when it does rain - or maybe hospitals, schools, roads, rail. Something that will really help the people of Australia. Instead of just making themselves look good in the eyes of the Greenies and Conservationists, it's time the average Australian - who usually just goes about his or her business, goes to work and lets these people have all the say - to stand up and speak out against these ratbags - before it is too late. Come on Australia -WAKE UP !!!
