Following harvest Australia's storage level of wheat grain reached 15 million tonnes in December, an increase of 13.5 million tonnes from the previous quarter, according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
It says that of the 15mt, Western Australia's bulk grain handlers had the largest store of all wheat grain at 6.1mt (42pc), while WA also exported the most wheat grain (61pc or 792,000t).
In January 2009, 1.8mt of wheat grain were used nationally, of which 1.3mt were exported and 449,000t were used domestically.
And the ABS says that at the end of January 2009, 4.8 million tonnes of wheat grain were committed for use either for export or domestic use.
