An estimated 25,000 people are expected to go cherry crazy at the 59th National Cherry Festival in Young, with the event’s stature attracting visitors from far and wide.
Tourists from Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania are set to taste the delights of this year’s bumper harvest during the festival weekend, December 5 to 7, with a number of delicious delicacies on offer.
Organisers hope the event will pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into the local economy, with a number of new attractions lined up to boost the 2008 festival.
Building on the success of previous years, the National Cherry Festival now includes a rock concert and a vocal competition, which join traditional favourites such as the street parade and Cherry Festival Ball.
Events kick off with the Cherry Festival Cup race meeting at Young Showground and continue throughout the weekend, with the Young and District Farmers Market the perfect opportunity for visitors to taste this year’s harvest.
