Cotril: A name to watch in the Brazilian beef industry

05 Dec, 2008 01:57 PM
Cotril, the largest Brazilian feedlot with a total output of 230,780 head in 2007, has begun exporting beef, with a 50 tonne swt shipment to Egypt, making it the first beef company to be fully integrated along the supply chain in Brazil.

It will focus its export operations on high value products for the Middle East, the EU, and to other South American countries – markets for which its plants are currently approved.

All cattle in the company’s feedlot are sourced from its own farms. The remaining 60pc of its cattle from its farms are sold to the market.

In the medium term, the company expects to produce 1,200 tonnes of beef per day, up from 500 tonnes/day currently.

The company, which began slaughter operations in December 2007, is also involved in breeding and animal nutrition development and conducts regular research on animal health.
