GrainCorp boss sells the farm

10 Nov, 2008 08:36 AM
GrainCorp chairman Donald Taylor quitting farming and selling his $10 million farming property, Parkhurst, on Queensland's Darling Downs, to concentrate on his corporate commitments.

"I'm too busy doing other things in the corporate world and something has to give," Mr Taylor told The Australian Financial Review. "I've either got to give up that or sell the farm and I've decided to sell."

Mr Taylor is already finalising the sale of an 1800 hectare section of the 6592ha Moonie district mixed cattle and cropping operation for $2.5m to a local producer. The remainder is still on the market.

Under Mr Taylor's Chairmanship of Graincorp he has managed to remove real growers from the Board and had an active role to destroy the export wheat orderly marketing system and cut GNCs shares by half. The mismanagment has caused growers to not support GNC this harvest in a big way. With many building their own storage. Taylor and his fellow directors who own a massive amount of shares between them must be feeling the pinch of the drop in their GNC portfolio. It started well before the World Finacial crisis. One day grower will be able to buy Graincorp back at a massively reduced fire sale price due to the lack of understanding and leadership of the current Board.
