Bushfire funds near $500,000

25 Jan, 2010 12:32 PM
Fundraising for victims of the Toodyay bushfires has almost reached $500,000.

The Bendigo Bank appeal, set up the day after the fires destroyed 38 properties near the town, has passed $300,000, after a $10,000 donation from Edith Cowan University.

ECU vice-chancellor Kerry Cox said the university would also look at other ways it could help the community in the coming weeks. Many staff and students had family in the town.

The Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund, run by the City of Perth, has separately raised about $186,000 so far.
