Community creates Hope from Ashes

01 Feb, 2010 07:13 AM
A FEW thousand people beat the heat on Saturday to party in support of the Toodyay community which was ravaged by bushfire in December.

Australian bands, including West Aussie musicians, volunteered to entertain the massive crowd at the Hope from Ashes concert in Toodyay.

Sunset Events managing director David Chitty said the vibe was positive and focused on the future.

"People were happy to get together and have an event that enabled them to start having fun again and moving on (from the tragedy)," Mr Chitty said.

"It was fitting it was on the oval where a lot of people were evacuated to.

"All the people who had lost their homes were given a free ticket to attend and the people who had damage to their homes were given a discounted ticket.

"Music has a place for these types of situations and the artists communicated a lot between the songs which really created a positive atmosphere."

Mr Chitty said all of the acts did a fantastic job but Adam Harvey and Angry Anderson were crowd pleasers.

"Adam Harvey and Angry Anderson were a highlight as well as The Novocaines from Northam. A lot of the dancing acts performed on second stage were really popular too.

Mr Chitty said it was too soon to know how much money was raised.
