LIVE export industry advocate Catherine Marriott from Kununurra has received the 2012 WA Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) Rural Women's Award.
A recent graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program, Ms Marriott plans to form a group of pastoral women from the Pilbara and Kimberley to learn how to better use all forms of media and to better understand the power of existing networks.
She strongly advocates for these women to be part of the change required within the beef industry now and in the future.
“A lot of the time country women are too busy with their heads down and their bottoms up, thinking that they have nothing to offer,” Ms Marriott said.
“But their thinking couldn’t be further from the truth.
“I didn’t accept this award on my own.
“There are many women in the north who are out working every day in the paddocks.
“I’m just representing them in accepting this award.”
