A trough is deepening over the west and is drawing the hot northeasterly winds right across the west coast with areas like Perth sweating through an extended hot spell.

Perth climbed to 39 degrees on Wednesday and exceeded 41 yesterday.

The heat is not going anywhere either and is expected to stick around into the beginning of next week. This could make it ten consecutive days above 30 degrees for Perth, a feat not seen in February for 14 years.

For many areas the temperatures are shooting above 40 degrees even by lunch time. Swanbourne broke the 40 degree mark by midday and Pearce by 1pm.

The only sign of relief for the west is towards next Wednesday when a cold front will finally drag the hot air east and away from the coast.
