Perth shivers through coldest night of the year

02 Jul, 2009 11:42 AM
Perth has shivered through its coldest night of the year after the mercury dipped to the lowest minimum since September 2008.

Temperatures dropped to 2.6 degrees about 7.30am this morning.

From midnight last night to 6.40am, it steadily got colder from 9.3 degrees to 2.7 degrees.

Elsewhere, the minimum dropped to 1 degree at Jandakot Airport about 7am, while the highest minimum occurred in Warmun in the Kimberley with 23 degrees - 10 degrees above average for that town, according to Martin Palmer from WeatherZone .

The lowest minimum in the state was -1 degree at Collie East between 6am and 7am - which was four degrees below average.

Mr Palmer said there was potential for frost through Perth, the South-West, central Wheatbelt and Great Southern overnight, adding frost could also occur through the weekend, particularly in inland areas.
