Sales slump won't last: WesTrac

17 Mar, 2010 07:06 AM
THE effects of the global financial crisis are still working their way through the system at Kerry Stokes's WesTrac mining and construction equipment dealership.

Documents released yesterday before a shareholder vote on merging the business with Stokes's media group, Seven Network, show that WesTrac is expecting a 25 per cent fall in sales of new Caterpillar equipment in Australia this financial year, according to The Australian Financial Review.

The company blamed a crisis-related slump in demand for equipment in Western Australia, one of three territories in which it is the sole Caterpillar dealer.

"WA mining machine sales are expected to decrease by $217 million as first-half sales were impacted by customer order cancellations," it said.
