Wet and windy week ahead for WA

23 Jun, 2009 04:02 AM
The west coast of Western Australia is in for a very wet and windy week with 50 to 100mm of rain and 100km/h winds possible.

FarmOnline Weather believes the focus of the rain will be in the Perth, Mandurah and Bunbury area where more than 100mm is a chance during the next seven days.

This also looks like the focus of the strongest winds, although the southwest capes will bear the main brunt.

The wettest and windiest periods should coincide.

The first being on Wednesday and the second on Saturday as low pressure systems make their biggest impact.

At this stage Saturday looks like being the windiest day.

The forecast rain will almost certainly take much of the Southwest Land Division past their average monthly rainfall.

It may be the wettest week since last winter from Geraldton to Albany and inland to Narrogin, where widespread falls of 50 to 100mm are likely.

Western parts of the wheat belt should pick up 15 to 30mm with a little less further east.

The Goldfields may only pick up less than 10mm.
