WAFARMERS and Emerald will offer WA wheat growers access to premium payment scales this selling season for protein, moisture and screenings, through their innovative wheat pool alliance.
Final details of the controversial WAFarmers WheatPool, to be managed by Emerald, were announced yesterday at the WAFarmers tent at the Dowerin GWN Machinery Field Days.
Emerald deputy chairman Mike Chaseling was in Dowerin for the launch and spoke to Farm Weekly about the mechanics of the new pool.
Mr Chaseling said the pool's payment scale was an attempt to replace the highly popular Golden Rewards system.
He said payment scales for protein, moisture, screenings and the new measure of test weight would all be available under the new pool.
Golden Rewards were previously offered to wheat growers through the AWB National Pool, which was scrapped on July 1, a result of the Federal Government's new wheat marketing legislation.
The pool will focus on supplying wheat demand from key markets in Southeast Asia, Japan and the Middle East.
The WWPOC will comprise six members, equally representing WAFarmers and Emerald, and chaired by Mr Chaseling, including WAFarmers president Mike Norton, WAFarmers chief executive Doug Parker and WAFarmers senior and grains council vice president Derek Clauson.
Only WAFarmers members can gain access to the new pool, but non-members are being encouraged to join to ensure get access.
Mr Clauson said WAFarmers was running the pool in an alliance with Emerald to ensure WA grain growers had access to effective wheat marketing options that were structured in a format designed to meet their needs.
