Secure future in CBH elections: WAFarmers

15 Feb, 2010 12:00 PM
WAFarmers urges all grain growers within Cooperative Bulk Handling (CBH) Electoral Districts Two, Three and Four, to vote in the upcoming CBH Director elections to secure the future of Western Australia’s grains industry.

WAFarmers Grains Section Senior Vice President, Kevin Jones, said it was vital all eligible CBH shareholders exercised their right to vote, particularly with the future structure of CBH high on the agenda.

“The newly elected Directors of the Board will play a pivotal role in the future of CBH.”

“With 14 candidates up for election, growers within Districts Two, Three and Four should make it a point of priority to choose a candidate who will act within the best interests of all Western Australian growers and CBH as a whole.

“As is standard practice, the WAFarmers Grains Section will not be endorsing specific candidates in the Director elections, and instead asks that growers make an informed decision as to who they feel would best represent Western Australian growers on the CBH Board.

“The WAFarmers Grains Section continues to hold the view that a grower-owned co-operative will best meet the current and future needs of growers, rather than a corporatised model that works to maximise profits for external shareholders at growers expense.

“Grain growers need to make a decision as to how they would like to see CBH run in the future.

“With the structure of CBH on the table, growers must ensure that they are voting for candidates whose position on CBH structure reflects their own,” Mr Jones concluded.

CBH is a serious business and as such it should act in a professional and ethical way. WAFF must move forward and think of a future in a fully commercial grain industry, otherwise WA growers will be left behind.
