ONLINE grain trading platform Clear has reported a marked increase in traffic in its second year of operation, and is confident there will be plenty more grain placed on the exchange over coming months as farmers attempt to market warehoused grain.
Currently, the company reports that there are over 65,000 tonnes of grain on offer for purchase on the exchange, with over 3000 growers actively using the system.
Clear business development manager Robert Nelson said there had been strong backing for Clear from either side of the supply chain, growing on from the business’s launch last harvest.
“There has been a lot of support for Clear this season from both grain growers and buyers.
“The system offers growers a connection to a large group of buyers and traders, access to the best prices on offer and secure, prompt payment, while buyers are attracted to the live, transparent market provided by the platform.”
Mr Nelson said a steady stream of new buyers have registered on the CLEAR Grain Exchange over the 2009/10 season and more buyers are expected on board as the season progresses and more grain comes on offer via the CLEAR system.
He said there had been a strong response to the integration agreement Clear has in place with GrainCorp, which allows growers with grain warehoused at a GrainCorp site to sell their grain via Clear.
Grower feedback has suggested the fact that a Clear account is automatically created when they warehoused grain at GrainCorp sites has been a strong factor in getting them to test out the system.
And with much grain still in warehoused and depressed prices meaning growers are actively seeking even a small premium, it is expected that there will be plenty more of the millions of tonnes currently warehoused in the GrainCorp system marketed on Clear.
Mr Nelson is confident a significant parcel of the warehoused grain will be sold off online.
“We expect a large portion of this to be placed on offer on Clear in the coming months.”
