Long-term commercial buyers, fellow stud breeders and some new clients to the Koojan Hills Angus stud ensured stud principals Lew and Pam Smit of yet another very successful bull sale at Kojonup on Tuesday.
The final result was 34 bulls of 37 offered by Elders auctioneer Don Morgan sold at auction to a top price of $11,000 and an average of $5706, down slightly on last year when 38 bulls sold to average $5993.
Two of the passed in bulls were negotiated at the upset of $3000 following the sale.
Commenting on this year’s result, Lew Smit said it was well above their expectations given the current situation in the commercial beef market.
However, with 47 registrations for the 37 bulls on offer and with two buyers securing 11 bulls between them and stud interests operating along with commercial buyers on the top bulls, what other result could one expect.
The top price of the sale came with lot 6 and saw Gerald Kilpatrick, Chimera Trust, Kamballup, go to $11,000 and outbid David Topham of the Cookalbi Angus stud, Coomberdale.
