Bulls sell to $7800 at Allegria Park sale

12 Feb, 2012 02:00 AM
NOT one bull even looked like being passed in at the Allegria Park annual on-property bull sale in Esperance last Wednesday.

With a total clearance, a whopping top price and an average far surpassing that of last year, the results of the sale strongly reflected the confidence producers currently have in the beef cattle industry.

Stud principals Andrew and Fiona Kuss offered a superior line-up of 25 Angus bulls, which sold to a top of $7800 and an average of $5156, up nearly $1500 on last year.

Mr Kuss was surprised with the prices he received for the bulls on the day.

"We are very happy with the sale, we sold all 25 bulls and the average shocked me to tell you the truth," he said.

"They were some of the best EBV figures we have seen in our bulls, which coincides with a kick in the market.

"I am glad there is some faith back in the WA cattle industry and I wish buyers all the best with their purchases."

Landmark Brindley and Gale auctioneer Neil Brindley agreed with Mr Kuss.

"The total clearance and improved average is a reflection on how the beef industry is performing," Mr Brindley said.

"We are extremely happy with the prices and it is a credit to the hard work and effort of the vendor."

Top price honours of the day went to a superbly built bull with magnificent EBVs recording a scrotal size of +2.0 and an EMA of +2.4 as well as an impressive carcase weight of +63 and 200, 400 and 600-day weights all well above average.

This top bull, Allegria Park F117, born on June 11, 2010, was sired by Allegria Park D57 and out of Allegria Park Eclipse A51 and was much talked about before the sale.

Quick to identify the genetic benefits the bull had to offer was Deb Hoffrichter, Shark Lake Piggery, Esperance.

Ms Hoffrichter, and husband Stephen, were good judges wasting no time on the bidding and held on to secure the bull for a whopping $7800.

Ms Hoffrichter said they were long-time buyers of Allegria Park genetics and added all the bulls on their property came from this stud.

"Everything measured up in the way of EBVs but the bull also had fabulous legs and feet structure and a good length," she said.

Just to sweeten the deal the buyer of the top-priced bull received 500ml of Dectomax Injectable on behalf of Ben Fletcher, Pfizer Animal Health.

The Hoffrichters run 350 Angus breeders on their property in Esperance and went on to purchase another two bulls for $5200 and $6600.

The quality kept coming as did the bids with the second top price of $7600 reached twice on the day.

The first to secure an Allegria Park bull for this amount was Wes Graham, WJ and SJ Graham, Esperance, who was a consistent buyer of top genetics.

The bull, Allegria Park Equator F71, was sired by Adrossan Equator A241 and out of Allegria Park B24 and was born on May 18, 2010.

Mr Graham went on to buy a further two bulls for $5200 each.

Also paying the second top price of $7600 were RH & CK Green, Esperance, for Allegria Park F97, which was sired by Bangadang D15 and out of Allegria Park F70 and born on June 3, 2010.

This buyer also bought an additional bull for $5000.

Hargate Park worked through the catalogue to secure two bulls for $5800 and $4000 and Lloyd Sherlock secured two for $3500 and $3600.

WM & DK Vandenberghe also bought two handy bulls for $5400 each and the Bott Family Trust secured one for the solid price of $6400.

Gorno Pastoral Company paid $6000 for a bull packing plenty of beef and the Esperance Downs Research and Development Station secured one bull for $5000.
