Low clearance at springing heifer sale

12 Dec, 2009 01:00 AM
THE Boyanup Supreme Springing Heifer sale held Friday could only be described as disappointing.

Normally a gauge as to how WA's beef industry is travelling, this year's sale reflected the current poor beef prices and the loss of the state's second biggest abattoir to fire only weeks ago.

All up there were 1452 premium heifers offered with only 895 selling under the hammer (a 61pc clearance) to a top of $1360 and a $964 average.

The top price was paid for a line of seven Angus-Friesian cross heifers offered by JA & NA Brooks and bought by Gerald Young, Bridgetown.

Second top price was $1260 paid for a line of nine synchronised mated Angus-Friesian heifers offered by KS & EN Roberts and bought by Glencorrie Farms, Boyanup.
