KEYSBROOK Angus breeder Bruce Campbell has been recognised for his contribution to the Angus breed when he was awarded the prestigious Strathtay Trophy at the WA Angus Society's annual general meeting last week.
At the meeting, WA Angus Society chairman Lindsay Wolrige said on every committee there were quiet achievers, who work diligently throughout the year for the good of the breed.
"This year's winner of the Strathtay Trophy is certainly one of these undercover agents," Mr Wolrige said.
The WA Angus committee successfully runs the Cattle Assessment school, as well as the spring field walk, and has commenced what it hopes will be a long-term association with Farm Weekly organising the heifer competition.
The Strathtay trophy was established by the late father of John Young, Strathtay Angus stud, Narrogin, who believed it was necessary to recognise an individual or group achievement in promoting the Angus with exhibition success, the sale or purchase of stud or commercial stock, or setting an outstanding high standard in their chosen field, thereby earning the respect of Angus breeders.
Announcing Mr Campbell's win, Mr Wolrige said his family has been involved in breeding Angus for over 50 years, and since taking over the mantle of running the show Mr Campbell had contributed to many facets of the cattle industry and WA Angus in particular.
"He has served as chairman of the local committee, been on the publicity committee for many years and has been strongly involved in the cattle assessment schools over the years supplying cattle and trucking them around the South West," Mr Wolrige said.
"Mr Campbell is also involved in showing steers at the Perth Royal Show and takes responsibility for flying the Angus banner and placing all relevant promotional material at the show and country events."
Mr Wolrige said at the same time he runs, with his wife, a very successful cattle operation at Keysbrook.
"I am sure all seedstock and commercial Angus producers will all agree with me that Mr Campbell is a very worthy recipient of this year's Strathtay Trophy award," he said.
Awards were also presented on the day to the Topham brothers, Leon, David and Kim, Cookalabi Angus stud, Coomberdale, and the Dunnett family, Flybrook Angus stud, Kojonup, in recognition of their 50 year commitment and dedication to the Angus breed, while Gary and Julie Buller, Monterey Angus stud, Karridale, and Simon Walsh, No 1 Angus stud, Kojonup, received an award in recognition of their 25 year commitment and dedication to the breed.
