NEW Santa Gertrudis genetics are on their way to WA following the purchase of a 17-month-old sire from South Australia recently.
Buyer Mark Madew, Cundarra stud, Gingin, bid to $5000 to secure the well-grown polled youngster at the Centre State Santa Gertrudis sale, Warnertown, South Australia.
Walmona Quake (P) has a strong polled pedigree having been sired by prepotent breed sire Aberdeen Adonis (P) and out of Kelanba Belle (P).
At just 17 months Quake weighed 610kg with a 106cm2 EMA and 1.1kg daily weight gain.
A first time visitor to the South Australian Santa Gertrudis breeder's sale, Mr Madew said the bull had appealed for his outstanding balance, structural soundness, growth and length.
"He has a very clean sheath and excellent coat type which is being sought by the live export trade," Mr Madew said.
"In my mind he was the standout bull in the line-up for overall structure, eye appeal and sire quality."
The Cundarra stud was registered in 2003 and comprises foundation females from Bahloo, Bruce Rock, Forest Hill, York, and Thomasfield, Ravenswood.
Quake will join fellow stud sire Kuloomba 88 (P), sire of the top priced Santa Gertrudis bull at the 2009 WA Big bull sale, at his new Gingin home.
