A TEAM of WA Charolais cattle have notched up nearly as many kilometres as an interstate truck driver.
The story behind a team of stud cattle which started their journey 400 kilometres south west of Perth, WA, is one that has to be told.
The cattle, which get sold at the Charolais National Show and Sale in Tamworth next week, have notched up 7000 kilometres.
And their mates, destined to make the journey back west to their home at Quicksilver Charolais stud, will travel 12,000 kilometres.
So is the mammoth logistical effort worth it? For Charolais enthusiasts Doug and Dani Giles, “Willawa”, Newdegate, WA, the answer is yes.
“Rockhampton's Beef Australia exhibition is the largest cattle show in the Southern Hemisphere and we wanted to compete against the rest of Australia,” he said.
Mr Giles said he believed they had a good team and the best way to promote the stud was to compete against other top bloodstock.
The first stop for the show team was Rockhampton Show where they collected some ribbons and now they are competing at the Brisbane Ekka.
The journey will culminate next week at the conclusion of the Charolais National Show and Sale, Tamworth.
