Merino ewes sell to $113

12 Mar, 2010 01:00 AM
IT was a very strong result throughout for the 12 lines of ewes and wethers offered by Lex and Diana Hardie and sons at their clearing sale on-property.

With just over 4600 well-bred and well-presented head being offered, the sale attracted just under 200 registered buyers and the sheep offering saw strong competition from bidders throughout the agricultural region and the eastern states.

The sale was held by Elders in conjunction with Primaries with that company's auctioneer Graeme Alexander taking charge of the sale.

Although all who registered may not have been there to buy any of the sheep on offer, most were keen to see what values interested buyers were prepared to pay and they saw the first line offered, 436 red tag ewes topping the sale, when knocked down at $113.

These 2006-drop January-shorn ewes had been running with Middlmoor White Suffolk rams from December 12 to January 22 and were bought by Brian and Brett Caporn, BJ & PK Caporn, Quairading, who went on to top up with a further 179 green tag ewes of same shearing and joining, these selling at $90.

Following the first line, the next two lines were of same shearing and joining being 409 yellow taggers which sold at $103 and then 362 purple taggers at $97, both lines bought by Peter Sheridan of Primaries on account of an undisclosed buyer.

The one other line of January-shorn ewes joined to White Suffolks was 176 black and blue tags and these went at $108 to KM Slater, Gidgegannup.

There were two lines of black and blue taggers offered and although of the same January shearing, both lines had been joined over the same period, December 12 to January 22, but to Cranmore Park Merino rams.

The large draft of 603 black taggers sold at $106 to Neuana Farms, Merredin, while the 475 blue taggers went at $101.50 account Elders Perth, bought on behalf of Elders Melbourne.

Next offered were three lines of October-shorn wethers who will be heading overseas.

The line of 647 black taggers sold at $111 to Livestock Shipping Services and Wellard Rural picked up the two lines of white taggers, one of 392 head at $83.50 then the next line of 262 at $78.

The very large crowd gathered for the offering of the first line of ewes at the Hardie family's clearing sale at Narrogin last week. The line topped the sale at $113.
