A GOOD turn out of buyers, both in person at Moora and ringing in on mobile phones, gathered to take advantage of the quality sheep that were available at a dispersal sale offered by local farmers, RL & AF Joyce, with two lines of mated ewes being knocked down by Landmark auctioneer Grant Lupton for $97.
Bred on Cranmore bloodlines, all ewes had been running with Cranmore rams since December 14 and 15, with the first line offered, 218 August shorn rising two-year-old ewes, selling to RE & SJ Kennedy, Dandaragan, for $97.
All of the other ewes were October shorn, with the equal top price of $97 being paid by Landmark Moora agent Craig Williamson, bidding on behalf of clients, for a line of 233 rising 4yo ewes.
When the rising 2yo ewes were shorn in 2009, their wool averaged 16.9 micron, while the wool from the other ewes averaged 19 micron, showing the dividend from the annual classing of the 1.5yo ewes.
D & FJ McKinley, Moora, took the second line offered, 253 rising 3yo ewes, for $90, later paying $91 for another line of 320 rising 5yo ewes.
Even the rising 6yo ewes attracted keen bidding, eventually being knocked down for $68 to Pat Hannigan, Elders Moora, acting on behalf of a client.
The young sheep were also in demand, with a line of 416 rising 1yo ewes selling to L Poklepovich, Bindoon, for $80, with another 172 of the same age ewes going to NW Roe, Northam, for $71.
NW Roe took another couple of lines, including 158 rising 1yo wethers for $63, then paying $51 for a line of 75 mixed sex youngsters.
A large line of 441 young wethers was also offered, eventually being knocked down to Jim Millar, Landmark York, for $78, while a line of 152 m/a ewes went to Nick Bailye, Landmark Geraldton, for $65.
There was one other line on offer, with KAJ White, Badgingarra, offering 170 F2 Dorper ewes with better than 100 per cent lambs at foot, which went to Landmark Dandaragan for $90.
