Perth's hottest summer on record

01 Mar, 2010 04:31 AM
PERTH has averaged 32 degrees this summer, equalling the previous record set in 1978 and almost two degrees above the summer average.

The unusually hot summer included the hottest January in 48 years, when the maximum temperature averaged 33.4 degrees.

The West Australian capital has exceeded 35 degrees for the past four days and is a chance to extend the spell to seven days. If this feat is achieved it will be the first time in nine years. In February this has not occurred in 15 years.

Dry, gusty easterly winds will turn cooler southerly during Wednesday, so from Thursday onwards the temperature may fail to reach 30 for the first time in 10 days.

It will be a short-lived change, warming up again next weekend. We could see temperatures reach the mid 30s again by early next week.

Perth's Hottest Summer On Record!!!! In what way was it hotter than the previous record of 1978. If your headline is true surely you mean eclipsing not equalling.

Steffi, if two runners tie for first place at the Olympics, they both get a gold medal.

And no doubt this info will be seized on by the CC cultists, that GW is particularly evident in Perth, thus showing that their "calculations" are infallible. We get "record" or "equalling the record", temperature peaks, on regular occasions, what's different about this one? What about mentioning the bitterly cold, way-under-average temperatures, we had all spring? For me, 1962 was a memorably hot summer, but even that didn't reach records, that were set long before that date.

Has this temperature been adjusted like other temperatures in Darwin?
