WHILE growth in capital city house rents has been sluggish in the past 12 months, many of Australia's rural towns have seen strong increases.
According to researcher RP Data, the largest rental increases were recorded in the southern NSW town of Wagga Wagga and showed 11.1 per cent growth over the past 12 months, according to The Australian Financial Review.
In Dubbo, in central NSW, growth was 8.7 per cent and, further north in Queensland, rents in the town of Toowoomba recorded 8.3 per cent growth.
Interestingly, rents in resource industry towns, such as Kalgoorlie and Boulder in Western Australia, slipped 8.3 per cent.
