Only one wool sale centre left in WA

06 Nov, 2009 12:19 PM
IN a move to strengthen the WA wool industry, all WA wool auctions will now be held in the Western Wool Centre, Fremantle.

Primaries, Dyson Jones and Wool Agency held their final auction at Spearwood last week.

Primaries managing director Matt Pedersen said after industry discussions about centralised selling, the Spearwood Auction Centre decided to move its sale room in with Elders and Landmark in a bid to save costs for all sectors of the industry.

“With the drop in volume of wool and the centralised selling review we were very opposed to moving interstate,” Mr Pedersen said.

“Moving from Fremantle would have meant a disadvantage for the grower and an increase in charges.

“We have been in negotiations with all the other brokers and this has been the most cost effective way forward.”

He said it was vital to keep Fremantle open.

“We have now merged the two selling rooms and this will come into effect this week,” he said.

Well done western brokers on coming to a sensible agreement on rationalising duplicate sale rooms and systems. Good to see some parts of the industry working together.

Great decision, it’s only 10 years overdue. Should Matt Pedersen and his friends not just make the imminent decision now and migrate straight to Fredrick Street, Brooklyn. How’s that for radical thinking. Selling wool in another state to where it is stored…I will let the great minds of the wool industry ponder over that from while….

Hey Happy Duck or should that be wood duck you appear to know nothing of the WA Wool Industry and would be best to keep your bill out of what is a very good decision for the whole of the WA wool sector - most importantly to WA wool growers!! Well done Matt Pedersen and friends I say. Thank goodness someone is fighting for the WA industry and growers!!
